Abraham Lincoln's Birthday

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13th Amendment
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Abraham Lincoln was the most tested president perhaps in all of our history.  He is the only president to have to command Americans against Americans.  Brothers against brothers.  He courageously took America one step closer to holding self-evident truths it had declared, but never implemented.  Because of his bravery in the face of huge political risks, and the threat of assassination, we no longer feel dependent on enslaving others.  In fact, we abhor the idea of humans being bought, sold, and used as property.  Without Lincoln's incredible defiance to the Southern Democrats, as well as criticism from the north, we might still be practicing the barbaric atrocity we call slavery.

Happy birthday Abe!  May we never forget your ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of men.
